First Football Session at Rossett High: Fun, Fitness, and Mentoring in Football

First Football Session at Rossett High: Fun, Fitness, and Mentoring in Football

On September 11, 2024, we kicked off our first football session at Rossett High School’s 6-a-side  AstroTurf pitch, and it was a huge success! Andy Clark, our head coach, led the session with energy, sharing his footballing journey and how the sport offers more than just physical activity—it teaches life lessons. After an engaging 7-minute warm-up, we jumped straight into a match, and the smiles on the kids’ faces said it all.

As a parent in Harrogate myself, I understand how off-putting it can be when football clubs become overly strict and demanding. That’s exactly what we’re working to avoid. We believe that football should be about fun, fitness, and camaraderie, not pressure. Our sessions are designed to be competitive and structured, but with a focus on individual development. Each player gets bespoke mentoring—tailored feedback that’s relevant to their own strengths and areas for improvement. We’re not just coaching football; we’re coaching life skills, respect, and teamwork.

What makes our sessions unique is that the ball stays in play most of the time because of the enclosed pitch, so the kids are constantly engaged, getting the most out of their time. And unlike other clubs, we’re not looking to create the next pro player. Instead, we’re here to foster a love of the game—and to make sure every child gets equal game time.

As the founder of HIA, I was proud to see this vision come to life in our first session. This is just the beginning, and we’ll continue to refine and improve the offering. We’re actively looking for more players, and we welcome kids of all skill levels. Whether your child is an experienced player or brand new to the sport, we provide a supportive environment where they can grow and thrive without the pressures of traditional clubs.

At HIA, our belief in mentoring is central to everything we do. Andy and I are committed to providing personalised guidance that goes beyond football, helping each player build confidence and respect, both on and off the pitch. If you’re a parent in the Harrogate area, who’s been hesitant about joining a football club because of the intensity or strictures, this is the place for you.

Let’s bring the joy back to football—where kids play for fun, fitness, and friendship. Want to learn more? Get in touch here and let’s get your child involved in a better way to play football in Harrogate!
